We live in a culture where we value success over significance. We would rather be visibly successful in the eyes of the culture than contribute something significant to the world we live in. In fact, we now attribute significance to visibility. It seems like the more famous a person becomes, the more worth or value that person is esteemed by. Nothing could be further from the truth. Significance is always more important than visibility. Fame is fleeting and the crowd is fickle but making a contribution to the world is of lasting value. If your significance becomes visible to others, then use that platform to add more significance, remembering that everything is to be stewarded for the purpose of God’s kingdom and his glory. Talent, looks and opportunities can be leveraged for personal gain or kingdom gain. Every gift from God was given freely and for a purpose. Maturity understands the purpose for which influence is given and stewards it accordingly. Immaturity exploits talent and influence for selfish gain. One may result in visibility, the other will result in significance. Which one are you aiming for?
