A Place of Rest!

Joshua 1:13 “..The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.”

Modern life is becoming increasingly complex and in part, it’s our own fault. We are besotted with the notion that ‘more is better’ and so we lead frantically busy lives accumulating more than we need and searching for the next experience or achievement that will satisfy the void in our hearts. There must be a better way to live. There is, it’s found in the person and presence of Jesus. For Israel, thousands of years ago, their place of rest was found in God’s promised land of Canaan. God had promised the land to His people and in it they would find rest from their slavery in Egypt and nomadic wandering in the wilderness. For us, while holidays in Noosa and the Caribbean are wonderful but temporary places of rest and recreation, true rest is found when we cast our burdens on the Lord and spend time being still in his presence. The powerful reality about God’s presence is that you don’t have to jump on a plane to experience it, you can dive into his rivers of living water wherever you are, at any time of the day. While practically stopping and resting is an important and necessary part of the weekly rhythm of our lives, Jesus has made every provision for our hearts to find its rest in his lavish grace poured out for us on the cross. Instead of running to accumulate more, walk into God’s promised land of rest for your life by faith in Jesus Christ. Selah!

Don’t make life harder for yourself!

Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Too many of us approach life in combat mode, always battling and very rarely winning. This isn’t the life you have to live. Sure there are seasons when life and hell is throwing everything at you but this isn’t reality 100% of the time. You don’t have to live under constant pressure and feeling over burdened. Get a different perspective. God offers us a relationship with him, whereby, we get access to his inexhaustible grace and power to live the life he’s called each of us to. But you have to come to him. You can’t keep doing life in your own strength. You must choose to stop and drink from his living waters. Often times, we are our own worst enemies because we don’t create space in our minds, hearts and schedules for his presence to renew us. It’s time to stop making life harder for yourself than what it needs to be. Run to him and ask for his help!

decisions“You will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.” (Isa 30:21)

Contrary to popular opinion, God’s Spirit is communicating far more to us than we care to acknowledge. He’s at work far more than we care to notice. God doesn’t leave himself without a witness. He uses any and many means to inform the paths we should take but we have to pay attention to the signposts he positions for us along the path of our life’s journey. God’s always speaking, it’s whether we are listening. God’s always revealing, it’s whether we are seeing. Just as a freeway has signposts directing you from where you are to where you want to be, God gives us signposts to help guide you from where you are to where you want to be. His signposts range from people we bump into, to the circumstances we face, to the opportunities before us, to the words we receive, to the impressions in our hearts and everything in between. What are the signposts God maybe using to lead you right now in your life? Pay attention and you’ll get to your destination!
