Isaiah 43:19 ‘Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it.’
Some words we receive from God are about healing us from our past. Some words we receive are about preparing us for the future. But we need to know how to receive and possess the NOW word of God for our lives.
The problem is we’ve become so accustomed to reminiscing on the past or waiting for the future that we have forgotten how to possess what God is doing in our present.
When God speaks, stuff happens. One word from God can change everything in our lives. When God’s ready to move in your life, he opens his mouth and declares it through the spoken word. God calls those things that are not as if they were.
Gods word makes a way, where there is no way. When Israel were facing the Red Sea with the Egyptian army bearing down on them, their only choice was to partner with the word of God and lift up the rod of authority and speak to the sea to MOVE! God’s given us a rod of authority. It’s called the sword of the Spirit and with it we can open our mouths and speak to mountains to be removed.
Gods plan will be established despite mans agenda. The heart of man plans his way but the Lord orders his steps. We must have a flexible heart thats sensitive to God’s Spirit. he who is flexible will not be broken. Time with God in prayer is where God performs spiritual surgery on our hearts and reveals his thoughts and ways that are contrary to ours.
God is doing a NEW thing. God’s into new songs, new moves of His Spirit and making new creations BUT he won’t do a new thing through an old mindset. Mt 9:17 New wine is not put into old wineskins. New wine is put into new wineskins.
Embracing the NEW requires letting go of the old. There’s a reason why your rear view mirror is smaller than your front windscreen. Where you’re going is more important than where you’ve been. Too many people crash in life because they refuse to stop looking at their lives through the rear view mirror.
Embracing the new requires seizing the NOW word of God. God wants to do something in your life NOW. God’s been at work in your past. He’ll be there in your future but he’s at work right NOW. Discern the season you are in and suck the life out of it. God’s kairos is that God appointed window of opportunity when His call goes out to those who will discern and seize what God is saying. Seize God’s kairos in your life and watch God move powerfully on your behalf.
John 2:5 ‘His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”‘
I love this verse in the bible. It is so simple and yet is so profound, and it has far reaching consequences. I’ve long held to the spiritual principle of hear and obey. It has been part of the core fabric of my spirit and walk with God, however, while I still believe and practice it, I would like to add another word into the middle of this fundamental idea.
The word is ‘Interpret’. Hearing is crucial. Obeying is vital. Interpretation is absolutely critical. A heart to interpret what God or anyone else is saying is a sign of maturity and wisdom. You might be able to hear but if you don’t interpret accurately, you could misapply your obedience.
It’s true, we do know in part and prophesy in part (1 Cor 13), however, that doesn’t mean we fail to invest time and energy into rightly handling the word of truth we have received. In my early years of ministry, I would hear the word, have a desire to obey but not always seek out the clear interpretation. I see the same thing happening with different ministries in the body of Christ today.
Truth is, it can be hard to know how to interpret what God reveals to us. Gods thoughts and ways aren’t ours and as a result interpretation can be a struggle. I’ve learnt that godly counsel, extended prayer, studying the scriptures and some helpful dream interpretation tools have been useful in processing a download from heaven. One such book is titled, ‘Dreams – The divinity code’.
I encourage you to pay the price to hear God’s voice, exercise wisdom to interpret what God has spoken and have the courage to obey boldly what God has revealed to you. Remember, not everything God reveals is to be actioned but more often than not it is.
Proverbs 13:12 ‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick.’
Sometimes, you can receive a prophetic word that is flattering but simply not true. If we find our identity in Jesus, then we are not as prone to be a sucker for flattering words that are not based in truth. A person with an ambitious and insecure heart is more often seduced by an exaggerated or flattering word.
One problem that comes from believing wrong information is that we have wrong expectations about the future. Prophecy is meant to stir up our hopes and expectations but if what we hope for doesn’t happen (because the words not based in truth), then we are prone to be disappointed and hurt.
Deferred hope disappoints us so much that we can get into despair or even become angry with God or the prophetic ministry in general. Christians who are angry with God, cynical and critical in their spirits, don’t realise the problem is that they are heartsick over unfulfilled hopes and expectations. Don’t reject God or his prophetic word but interpret them correctly and if a word was wrong, stop believing it.
Be careful because if you become disillusioned and offended with God you can lose your spiritual vigour and the enemy can drive a wedge between you and God. We all have had expectations that haven’t become reality and sometimes this is simply because our expectation wasn’t based on truth. Check the source of your expectations and if they are of God, persevere in prayer until realised but if they aren’t, then change your expectation. It will only make you heart-sick.
