Darkness cannot overcome Light!

John 1:4-5 “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”

God is the source of life. All things were made through him and for him. God’s life is the light of all humanity. God breathed his spirit into the void of man’s body and brought us all to life. The light of God’s presence shines so bright that no matter how dark it gets in the world, darkness cannot overcome it. The darkness of man’ sin and Satan’s agenda will try to smother the light of God’s glory and goodness but darkness can never overcome the light of God from the earth and all creation. This is a reassuring message at a time in the world when all humanity appears to be shaking under the weight of darkness. People are groping for meaning and life but unfortunately looking for it in all the wrong places. God is the source of light and life itself. Everything about him exudes and promotes the fulness of life. Whatever darkness you may be facing today, internal or external, run to the light of God’s grace, goodness and presence. You will discover like many others that the light still shines in the darkness. Explosive Insights!

Pursuing a lifestyle of JOY!

Proverbs 17:22 “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Happiness is overrated but JOY is underrated. JOY is beyond happiness. Happiness is circumstantial, JOY is an intentional posture of the heart that the Holy Spirit works into our nature as we abide in him. JOY-filled people are a pleasure to be around. We generally want to hang out with a person genuinely JOY-filled. JOY releases strength into your heart and body. Research has shown the medicinal effect laughter and JOY can bring to a sick person. I’ve heard of a terminally ill patient stopping his treatment in hospital, checking himself into a hotel room and watching comedy after comedy, laughing himself towards wholeness and well being. As a communicator, I’ve observed the power of laughter to open peoples hearts to your subject matter and release tension in the room. Nehemiah says, “The JOY of the Lord is your strength.” JOY releases strength and confidence in your spirit, soul and body for you to live your life to the fullest. There are many tribulations in life that attempt to steal our faith and JOY but we’ve got to guard our JOY and feed it with the life of the Spirit dwelling inside of us. JOY is connected to our faith in God. A heart at rest in God, trusting his goodness and love will be able to access JOY. God is in a consistently good mood and He’s always full of JOY. Run to his presence, drink his cup of JOY and allow it to heal your wounded heart and lift up your crushed spirit. A life saturated with JOY is not only possible but it’s a necessary pursuit of life and is only truly found in the presence of God. Explosive Insights!

From Battler to Blesser!

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them and said “Be fruitful and multiply.”

One of the unhelpful results of the fall of mankind is we tend to battle our way through life. Unfortunately too many of us tend to cope with life rather than conquer in life. Because of Jesus’ restoration of dominion through the cross we can not only be more than conquerers but we can be blessed. In fact we are told in John 15 that God chose us an appointed us to bear abundant fruit. Blessing is the birthright of the believer. Being blessed doesn’t mean we won’t face resistance but it does mean we are positioned to choose victory in the face of resistance by faith. God doesn’t want you to be a battler but to be a blesser of others. To do so you must settle in your heart that blessing is yours today through Jesus Christ.

There are no shortcuts with God!

Screen-Shot-2012-04-02-at-10.54.09-AMGod’s saved you, loves you and favours you BUT he is not into letting you take shortcuts at the expense of your character and relationship with him. Too many of us presume upon God’s grace and see it as a license to get away with stuff that others are accountable for.

Thank God for his grace, favour and love but don’t think this means you don’t have to take practical responsibility for your life, health, relationships, finances and work.

We are living in a day and age where, unfortunately, some people walk around with a victim mentality, misunderstanding God’s role in their lives, blaming others for their circumstances and in a quandary as to why life isn’t working out as they expect.

Unfortunately, some believers fall prey to this mindset and their lives downward spiral to the point of spiritual paralysis. Life is always moving in one of two directions, towards God or away from God. Interrupt negative momentum in your life by thinking of yourself and life with sober judgment.

Stop making excuses as to why you can’t do something and take responsibility to change the theme of your life. God’s grace is there to empower you. His word is there to fuel your faith and His Spirit is there to sustain you across the finish line of whatever it is you are pursuing in Him.

The Oracle!

By Faith!

The phrase ‘By Faith’ appears 19 times in Hebrews 11 (Read it some time today). It’s a phrase that describes how the great people of old lived their lives and followed God’s call upon them. What these heroes of faith did, pleased God because they did them by faith in God. Their testimony has been given to us to inspire us and challenge us to live by faith. What God has started in their faithful example, He wants to complete in us by faith!

Too many of us live by fear rather than by faith! Fear is False Expectations Appearing Real. Fear is Failure Expected And Received. Fear makes you Forget Everything And Run. Too often we behave in a certain way due to our fear of opinions or circumstances rather than by faith in who God is and what his Word says.

Isn’t it funny how the devil tries to discourage your faith in God when God asks you to do something for him. He puts in front of your face all the negative reasons why you should give up and not believe in God’s grace and promises to you. The devil is a liar!

Living by FAITH is Forsaking All I Trust Him. Faith is Full Assurance In The Heart. Faith positions you to experience Fantastic Adventures In Trusting Him. Faith is a Fact Accepted In The Heart. Faith says, ‘Fear Aint In This House’. Habakkuk 2:4 ‘The righteous shall live by faith’.

Everyone exercises faith in something at sometime. Whether it be flying in a plane, giving driving lessons to your ‘L Plated’ son or daughter or starting a new career, we all exercise faith to some degree. Spiritual faith is different, in that, it has as its object heavenly realities. Faith is the assurance of ‘things’ hoped for and the conviction of ‘things’ not seen.

Faith is the eye of the soul and the bible is the eye-glass through which faith looks. In the natural realm, seeing is believing but in the spiritual realm, believing is seeing. Faith in God grasps unseen realities based upon God’s testimony of himself and revelation to us and acts by faith towards what is not yet revealed.

Are you living by faith or by fear? Do you profess Jesus with your lips but deny him in your heart because you are directed more by your fears than by your faith in God’s Word? Mental assent to bible truths isn’t enough. Personal trust in a personal saviour is required. It’s time we lived By Faith!

The Oracle!

Determining the Strength of your Gift!

Romans 12:6 ‘Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith.’

Through grace we receive the abilities of the Holy Spirit. These abilities equip us to work in the harvest. Grace is not just undeserved favour; it is also the operational power of God.

Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

I think we underestimate the power of impartation through the laying on of hands. Paul said to Timothy by way of reminder to ‘stir up the gift within you, which you received through the laying on of hands.’ Although the gifts are imparted through the laying on of hands, you still must receive them from the one who imparts them to you by faith. 2 key things will determine the strength and flavour of your gifts:

  1. The proportion of your faith determines how much grace you receive to operate in the gifts. The greater amount of faith you have inside you, the stronger the gifts will operate through you.
  2. The type and level of grace that is resident in the one who is imparting the gift to you will determine what gift is given to you.

Kris Vallotton shares, ‘Grace and faith works like bringing an empty cup to a coke machine. The coke machine determines the flavour of the drink, just as the grace on a person’s life who imparts the gift to us determines the grace we receive. The amount of the drink we are able to receive is determined by the size of the cup that we bring to the coke machine (our faith). ‘ (Basic Training for Prophetic Ministry)

It’s imperative that we stay within the boundaries of our own faith and not try to copy another person’s faith. When Peter stepped out of the boat, he operated in faith. If the other disciples attempted the same action based on presumption of Peter’s faith, then they would have sunk into the water immediately. Think soberly of yourself, according to the measure of faith that God has apportioned to you.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not awards! We cannot earn them. Because the gifts are not a mark of maturity, we do not have to wait for our lives to be in perfect order to receive them. Nonetheless, we are instructed to earnestly desire which means, to passionately and intentionally pursue them.

The Oracle!

God is with YOU!

Judges 6:12 ‘The Lord is with you, O, mighty man of valour.’

There will come a day in everyone of our lives when we will face what seems like an insurmountable situation that requires a supernatural breakthrough to get through it. In that  day your breakthrough won’t come about because of a clever strategy or how pretty you are or who your friends are but because of one simple truth, God is with YOU!

All throughout the bible, God came to individuals and reassured them of his abiding presence with them. God said of Joseph, “The Lord is with him and had success everywhere he went.” God said to Moses, “I will be with you and help you deliver my people.” God said to Joshua, “Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I’ll never leave you, nor forsake you, be strong and courageous.” God said to Gideon, “The Lord is with you, O, mighty man of valour.” There come’s a time when it’s more than what you know or what you have but who is with you.

Fear makes us act like God isn’t with us. Gideon was found in a winepress beating out wheat in fear for his life from the marauding Midianites. Last time I checked a winepress was for treading on the grapes and extracting juice from them. God has hard-wired you up to be fruitful and multiply but the stain and poison of sin has marked us with the twin towers of immaturity and insecurity. This causes us to live by our fears, rather than by faith in God’s promises for our lives. Fear is a fruit of the sinful nature but faith is a fruit of living by the Spirit. The Spirit works into us the maturity and security God longs for us so we can live by faith and not by fear.

God sees you through the filter of his presence. When the angel of the Lord proclaimed to Gideon, ‘The Lord is with you, O, mighty man of valour’, Gideon was anything but a mighty warrior, he was hiding away in a wine press, fearing for his life. God never looks at you through your weaknesses, he looks at you through the filter of his presence at work in your life. God says, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness.’ We are so quick to look at what we haven’t got that we forget what we have got. When God is with you, you and God are a majority.
