Prayer Works!

Prayer is fundamental to every human being on the planet. All of us verbalise a form of prayer at some point in our lives. Prayer is the most accessible thing to do on the planet and yet many of us struggle with the words to truly express what is in our hearts. Prayer is a dialogue with God, not a monologue. Prayer is an expression of hunger and passion in our hearts. Prayer is the key that unlocks heaven. Prayer is the portal of God’s power. Prayer requires us to slow down and pause on what is eternal rather than what is temporal. Prayer leads to an outbreak of miracles. Prayer is God’s supply line to the front line of ministry. Prayer connects us to God. Prayer is an invitation to hang out with God. Prayer is a lifestyle, not an event. Prayer must become the air we breathe. Prayer Works!

Jesus said, ‘Pray then like this, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…’ (Matthew 6:9-10)

Leave Nothing In Your Bones!

2 Kings 5:13:20-21 “So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. And as a man was being buried, behold, a marauding band was seen and the man was thrown into the grave of Elisha, and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.”

The Universal Truth is that everyone of us are going to die. It doesn’t matter if you’re handsome, gorgeous, smart, wealthy, charismatic, conservative, black, white or even anointed like the prophet Elisha, what man can live and never see death (Ps 90:48)?

When you are in the last moments of your life, the question isn’t only what did you do with your time, talent and treasure but what did you do with the anointing of God’s Spirit resident within you?

The anointing is the person and power of the Holy Spirit moving in and through your life. I don’t think most of us really appreciate the value or power of what God has lavishly given to us in his anointing. Each believer has been anointed by the Holy One and the anointing teaches us everything (1 Jn 2:20, 27)

The prophet Elisha was anointed by the Spirit of God. He was called by God through the mentoring of Elijah and he asked for a double portion of his spiritual father’s anointing. It’s recorded that Elijah performed 7 miracles and up until his death, Elisha performed 13 miracles and 1 after his death. Soon after Elisha died, a man was buried in the same grave as Elisha (traditional custom) and when his dead body hit the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood up on his feet.

Wow! You may suggest that this is incredible, however, I think leave nothing in your bones. There’s an ‘organ donor’ saying that says, ‘Don’t take your organs to heaven, God knows we need them on earth.’ Don’t take your anointing to heaven, God knows this planet is a spiritual war zone and we need your anointing down here to turn death into life. Leave nothing in your bones.

Eternity is a long time and life on this planet is short. We have all eternity to celebrate a new heaven and a new earth but what we do with the anointing now is what is most important in eternity.

People’s spirits are dead in sin. The anointing of God’s Spirit is meant to be poured out for their benefit, not our enjoyment, alone. If you had the cure for cancer, you wouldn’t keep that cure to yourself but you would give it away to someone who desperately needed it. God has given us his anointing to give away to sick people to help minister life, truth and freedom to them. The anointing breaks the yoke of Satan’s bondage and agenda in people’s lives and that’s why we need to leave nothing in our bones.

Even the Great Ones Struggle!

1 Kings 19: 3 ‘Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.’

Elijah is one the great men of God in history and one of the greatest prophets that ever walked the planet. He operated in such a high level anointing and saw many mighty miracles unfold in his generation. He was a man who had angels appear to him. He called down fire from heaven. He prayed and the rain stopped for 3 years. He prayed again and the rain started. His anointing enabled him to outrun a chariot. His cloak parted the waters and a heavenly chariot of horses swept him up and transported him to heaven. The dude had some serious game and he walked a higher path, and yet…

Elijah still struggled with fear and fatigue. In fact his fatigue post Mt Carmel caused him to behave in the most uncanny and uncharacteristic way. He made a mockery of the false gods of Baal. He slaughtered Baal’s false prophets. He challenged the people of Israel to stop vacillating between 2 opinions and take ownership of their faith in God. And yet…

When Queen Jezebel heard the report from her intimidated husband, Ahab, she sent Elijah a death threat and he ran for his life. Why? Cause even the great ones struggle.

Elijah ran off into the wilderness, left his servant behind, slept under a broom tree and pleaded with God to kill him. Fatigue in life and ministry will make you do weird and wacky things. When you are tired, you respond out of character to whom God has called and anointed you to be.

Elijah perceived that he was the only one standing for God and yet his own gross over-estimation of himself blinded him to those whom God had established as a remnant amongst his people. His moment of weakness caused him to see his own pride and comparison to his forefathers. The real issue was he was tired and his weariness caused him to run away in fear.

Someone reading this wants to run away from the frontline of what God has called you to. You are weary and fatigued and you are considering a course of action that will prove catastrophic to God’s purposes in your life. Don’t run away from the battle. Seek rest and refreshment in the presence of God but don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. God’s bigger than the threats coming against you and can help you see through the obstacles that stand in your way. Recognize your state for what it is and don’t fall prey to the lies and deception of the enemy. God is with you and just like Elijah experienced, He will sustain you miraculously.
